SUGGESTED READING/VIEWING
Now don't get me wrong.
I'm going to suggest certain books and movies that any one aspiring
to be a writer should read/see. However, the movies may contain
graphic violence or language, or both, and probably shouldn't
be viewed without a parent's consent (for you juveniles out there).
I'll probably add links to where you can order them online, but
your best bet for the books is Amazon.com.
As far as the movies, you'll have to hunt down the best prices
yourself. Personally, if you don't have a DVD player, you're
missing a lot in comparison to a VHS copy of these movies.
Oh, and be sure to
note that this is DEFINITELY an incomplete list. I'm still gathering
enough data on the other books I've been looking into, so be
sure to check back often.
BOOKS
A Moveable Feast - Earnest Hemingway. This book is
a semi-biography about how Earnest Heminway went about becoming
an author, and his ideas and opinions about writing. I'm not
sure if he personally published this, or whether his wife Mary
did, but it doesn't really matter. This book is worth the read
and is very informative. I'd probably like to teach this to people
someday, but for now I'll just recommend you read it.
Illusions - Richard Bach. An extremely interesting transcendentalist novel
with a unique situation. What if the Messiah returned to Earth,
and started his mission, but then decided that humanity will
never change. Very interesting, and gets your mind working in
overdrive.
MOVIES
Lock, Stock and
Two Smoking Barrels
and Snatch- Arguably the best characterization
in any movies ever. Both are directed by Guy Ritchie, and both
star nearly the same cast, but all playing different characters.
Although Snatch is considered the sequel to Lock Stock, they
don't have anything in common other than the hilarious ranting,
insane greed battles, and chaotic plot stories that seem to get
everyone in trouble.
Saving Private
Ryan - The detail
that went into making this movie as historically accurate as
possible is amazing, and hard to believe that the story is in
fact fictional. Great movie though, and worth the watch even
if you aren't interested in the literary aspects of it.
Black Hawk Down - Based on the book of the same title,
which was based on real events, this movie has to be the most
jawdropping film I have ever seen. However, I suggest reading
the book first, since the movie does have its flaws in comparison
(although not that obvious). Beware though, this movie is definitely
not for the weak of heart, or stromach.
